This page could be of general interest to show you the original style Identity document which only white South African citizen was issued with. Non-whites were issued with a dompas.
The pages contained important personal particulars.
Do I not look so young and innocent?
The identity book could also record a persons blood group but as the document was published by my favourite inefficient government department this was never recorded and should have been A positive
The same applied to my diseases and disorders so with nothing entered I was deemed to be a perfectly healthy individual.
I did however try to keep my record of immunisations the last recorded entry being in April 1979

I was now compelled to register as a voter

but nothing was ever added to my voting record with one exception dated 22 November 1988
Once I had my military driving license my staff sergeant, Staff Nel allowed me on 26 September 1973 to use a Bedford to go into the Orange Free State provincial test centre to obtain my code 10 (heavy duty) drivers licence.
The cost for the test was all of R2.00 the equivalent of about 11 pence which was about 3 days of my army wage of 73 cents per day.
On 4th February 1978 I got married at the Umbogintwini Macdonald memorial Presbyterian church by the Rev. James. R. Elias.
Prior to the first democratic elections in 1994 this original style identity document was replaced by a new style document during 1992
